There are numerous volunteer tax preparation assistance programs available here in Pennsylvania and I’m sure all over the United States.
These tax programs help people take advantage of legal deductions and credits they don’t know they have coming either through ignorance, incapacity or other reasons.
WHat amazes me is each year in my little community almost $1million in tax credits and refunds are found that would.
IN other words, the IRS will just take this extra money since a filer does not know the law, and do whatever with it. And, if it is $ 1 million here, it probably amounts to billions nationally.
So, again, the IRS is probably getting billions of dollars in tax money they just take and keep because some people don’t know they can deduct something or get tax credit for something.
Then they tell us they are running at a deficit.
Get every dime of tax money you have coming and you don’t have to hire some greedy, slipshod, shyster lawyer or accountant…just get a $40 tax program for your computer or seek out a volunteer tax assistance program.
How dare they just take your money!!!

President Obama is a smiler. He has that big old grill and it works for him.
However, there seems to be a lot of the new government officials whose smiles don’t portray good feelings.
In fact, they are more like smirks. A real good example can be seen with the new White House press secretary. You would need a pliers to pry to smile off his face. Yet, it looks more like a smirk. A sign that says, “I’m OK. You’re screwed, but I’m OK.”
Think what you will about George Bush and Dick Cheney but they always looked very serious about their jobs. I find comfort in someone who takes that job seriously. I know it’s good to smile a lot…but it rots to smirk in people’s faces.
Smirkers club, Charles Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton.
Watch them smirk. They’re OK. You’re screwed.

There’s a company in PA that has technology that turns raw sewage into a burnable fuel.
It sounds like a great idea…there is no shortage of sewage, in fact it’s growing by the ton every day. Plus, it gives a use for it instead of sending it to landfills.
Of course, like any new energy though, it is expensive and not competitive with current fuels.
This is another example of how green energy feels good but does not work on a large scale unless the government puts up tons of tax money to prop it up.
Maybe it can become more competitive so we can stop buying from our enemies. The way it is now though, the typical user who is already fighting a growing list of bills just can’t afford it.
Someone come up with an affordable green energy alternative, please.

We live close to OUr daughter’s middle school in Pennsylvania, close enough for her to walk to school. Since we all work this is a great advantage.
But we have some trepidations of letting her walk alone even though our neighborhood is safe.
So we teamed her up with a neighbor’s daughter hoping to share some protective responsibilities with them.
Well, since we started doing this, there is an issue every day with this neighbor’s daughter. We aren’t saying our girl is always right but it looks like this neighbor’s kid is a real ignoramus.
They are supposed to walk together and she will either leave before my daughter gets to their meeting point, or make my daughter wait for her for a long time.
We don’t want our daughter hanging around with this girl but at the same time the walking situation works so well.
How do we make it possible to continue the walk without insulting the neighbors about their blockhead daughter who tries to make trouble every day?
Any one have any ideas?

My daughter swims for a really great coach. He knows how to get the best from her and her teammates while still keeping the fun in the game.
And, he must be doing something right because his record speaks for itself.
Recently, two coaches made the news and they both exemplify how awful coaches can be. It is important because these coaches play an important role in the formative years of a young person’s life. Their self esteem and confidence are made or broken by coaches.
The first bad example is the coach who actually ran up a 100 to 0 score in a girl’s basketball game. She actually expressed no regrets. How awful. The only reason to run up a high score like that was to benefit the coach so she can brag about the humiliation of the other team. Please! Once the score got to be 30 to 0, the coach should have laid off and even let the other team score. You jerk!
The other example is the high school football coach in Kentucky who pushed the kids so hard on a hot summer day one died. Listen coach, it’s not about you and your winning record. It’s about the kids.
Coaches can be real blockheads. Be careful if you care about your kid.

The worst thing about a bad economy is the lack of available jobs for those who want them.
Forget CEO’s and rich money grubbing pigs losing interest payments on their investments. Forget the lazy parasites who will have less food stamps for their ten illegitimate children. Forget the illegal immigrants who have to go back to where they came from. Forget the corporations who have to drop their already ridiculously high prices to a level that will make their products worth buying.
The real losers are the guys and gals out there all over the world who want to go to a job every day and earn a living, maintain their pride, and secure their productive place in societies. These are the people who make things happen; these are the people who truly make the world worth living in.
When the good paying jobs are gone, the world is a nasty place.
I hope it turns around.

Katie Stam won Miss America in a knock down drag out fight to the end. A dramatic ending ensued as she staunchly marched around half naked in a hot little bikini with fighting the ravages of laryngitis.
Congratulations.
What they should do now is make her and the winner of the miss USA pagent fight it out in a mixed martial arts cage match.
The winner takes all. Then move up to the an elimination tournament with girls from all over the world to determine the miss Universe tough girl.
Pardon the exercise in sarcasm.
Seriously, congratulations Ms. Stam. If you were my daughter, or girlfriend, or friend, I would be feeling very proud of your accomplishment.

Well, since taking office president Obama ordered a bombing in Pakistan to try to take out the terrorists who are harboring Osama Bin Laden.
Ten Pakistanis were killed but no hit on Osama.
It seems a little funny to me that Obama would be so aggressive so early in his job. Wasn’t he more about talking to the enemy and engaging them in negotiations?
I thought he was going to stop the fighting and begin a new age of peace and prosperity.
Now he’s lobbing missles into Pakistan which is not even one of the countries we’re at war with.
The thing that gets me the most is the feeling that as soon as Obama nails Osama, another replacement, probably named Omasa or Omaba, will step in and take over.
That war will never end.

Even though my blog doesn’t generate a lot of activity at this time, the fact I can sit at my computer and send the world a note about how I feel pays countless psychological dividends.
Of course, it would be much more fun if I could get some folks to kick the ball around with me on things and I’ll strive for that.
However, just giving my little opinion on worldwide topics makes me part of something bigger than myself and it gives me hope about life in general. All bloggers share that wondrous gift.
I advise you all to relish it. Because, there may be an effort some day to stop all of it. Our ideas will be crushed if that happens.
It may seem like it is happening now sometimes, but here in Pennsylvania on a cold winter night, it feels good to post.

During this time of year we call the dead of winter, cabin fever starts to settle in people’s behavior.
After so many weeks of time stuck indoors and more to come, also the constant drum beat of bad economic times as people lose jobs, it seems everyone is on edge.
People seem more argumentative, accusatory, selfish, etc.
It’s hard not to be that way in a global time that tells you you should be happy with all the things you have.
My suggestion is to get outside and do something. Walk the dog even if it is real cold…just bundle up.
Get out of the house.
And, despite the constant bombardment of barbs and digs from people all over the place, do return them. Try to understand the cabin fever they are dealing with.
